Maimonides I
In Maimonides, you will convene weekly on Monday nights for ten 2½ hour seminars, featuring guest speakers like Jewish scientists, teachers of mysticism, physicians, and black-belt martial arts rabbis, as well as lectures and discussions linking you, the modern Jewish student, with the ancient wisdom of your Jewish heritage. Discover and appreciate the tenacity of our people – how we’ve survived physically and spiritually amidst the greatest set of adverse circumstances. Understand the fragile state of American Jewry today. Feel inspired by your legacy, committed to your future as Jewish activists and leaders, and deeply touched by the humanity and sprit of your heritage.
We are seeking intelligent, engaged and empowered students who aspire to become tomorrow’s leaders and who feel compelled to learn how Judaism answers life’s most critical questions. The Maimonides Leaders Fellowship unlocks the door and presents what your Judaism has to say about itself, in a way you’ve surely never heard before. For more details click here.
Maimonides II
What do YOU do for MLF2? MLF2 has found a new winning formula for continuing your Maimonides experience in an even more profound way. Now there’s something for everyone! Choose from one of 5 intimate and personalized learning groups which best suits your interests and schedule. A class size of 10 ensures a customized atmosphere. A delectable menu will care for your stomach as well. Check out our website for examples of current seminars by clicking here.
Stew and Brew
Fully cooked stew, raw Judaism and cold brew. We're technically sponsored by HeBrew (if you count subsidized cases as sponsorship), shmaltz.com and will be providing mugs and t-shirts to boot, along with fine samplings of their glatt-kosher beer and our home-cooked cholent. But from time to time, our seasoned Rabbinic taste-buds may just get the best of us and a case of Hoegarten will find its way to your door. You bring the Jews, we'll bring the rest. Any questions, any occasion, any issues you choose, we'll turn it into a Jewish extravaganza of weiss-bier and wisdom, music and mysticism, delectables and depth, and the real meaning behind a "religious experience". Thursday night's are best, but 24 hr notice is required so the stew can brew.
Sushi with Ruthi
The Wisdom of the Wasabi Women – Jewish chicks sushi-fressing while trying to work out the meaning of the female experience between the menacing chop sticks. Straight, down to earth, no holds-barred women talk with enough low-sodium soy to drown a fake-kosher crab.
Challah Baking with Channi Women’s Programming
A holistic experience for mind, body and soul, challah baking with Channi is good old-fashioned fun in the kitchen: kneading, braiding and baking traditional golden Shabbat loaves while exploring the mystical significance of challah and the spiritual world of the Jewish woman. Join us on scheduled nights at the Maimonides Home @ Penn (251 S 41st Street) or book Channi for an aromatic evening at your dorm or sorority house – she brings the dough!
Maimonides @ Law School
The Maimonides/Penn Law is a forum for examining the deeper philosophical issues of Jewish basics and exploring its relevance to our lives, our work, and our society. The student of law particularly will find the study of the ancient Jewish code to be stimulating in its depth, challenging in its ideas, as well as surprisingly applicable to the modern condition. Join an MLF Scholar as we explore some of the profound aspects of Jewish philosophy and jurisprudence.
Shabbat on Campus
Come join us for that quintessential Jewish experience - the traditional Shabbat meal, complete with home-baked challah and gourmet kosher cuisine. Join the Feuers or the Lynns at the Maimonides Home at Penn for Friday night dinner and Saturday lunch. The food is abundant, the wine is flowing, the conversation is stimulating, the kids are cute. You will find the atmosphere warm, the experience - extremely addictive.
One on Ones
If you’re game, so are we. Without the fellowships, without the fanfare, One-on-One is simply the way it was always supposed to be. Choose any topic you like. Ask whatever’s on your mind.
